On 11 September, Central Europe was hit by an unusual low-pressure storm called Boris. During the first few days, the heavy rains caused flooding in several European countries with Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania being particularly affected. In four days, it rained five times the average rainfall for September.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service improves flood depth monitoring
The On-Demand Mapping component of Copernicus Emergency Management Service has enhanced its flood monitoring products by incorporating information on flood depth. This new operational feature is now systematically provided for emergency flood activations.
The situation has been caused by dry conditions and high temperatures, which have been further exacerbated by the ongoing effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
Information Bulletin 171 - The Copernicus Emergency Management Service monitors wildfires in Mexico
In early April 2024, Mexico was hit by severe wildfires, with the Mexican National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) reporting over 70 active fires in 19 states on 2 April. Reports indicated that 20 of these wildfires were located in protected natural areas. The states of Oaxaca and Chiapas were the most heavily impacted, with Oaxaca bearing the brunt of the damage.
